Running Late

Dropped down into Rock Creek for an easy hour this morning. Temps feeling even more comfortable than yesterday, and blue skies too. I guess I cherish this time in morning, because today I didn't wanna let it go. Now I'm running late. 7.1 miles 1:03:47.

Best Laid Plans

It's been 10 months since my last post. 10 months! I've been busy with life, waylaid by injuries, tied up with college graduation and job searching, etcetera etcetera. How do I sum up 10 months? I don't think I'm going to. I really don't think I can. Life has landed me in DC, where I've been for about a month now.

I wasn't sure I'd ever come back here. With respect to running, I wouldn't wish the past year of experiences on anyone. It's been pretty rough, to say the least. But the writing on the wall now indicates that things are getting better. Time heals. This will be something I revisit occasionally for a good long while.

I've really missed this outlet. The running, the writing.

Yesterday I thought I'd check out some trails in Rock Creek Park, a short run from my apartment. I wound up in unfamiliar territory, completely disoriented, and I ran 1o miles instead of the intended 6 or 7. This is one of the great things about exploration. You're sort of forced to adapt on the spot. And I did, and things were fine.

Today I ran to Virginia. This was an extension of an out-and-back I did a couple of weekends ago straight down Rock Creek Parkway, over the Arlington Bridge, and back. The skies were grey, and I had Glen Gould's Goldberg Variations on the holster to compliment a very peaceful run. I managed to negative split, notable especially because the way back is all uphill. I was tired toward the end, but the breathing was easy, and the legs were rolling. 13.2 miles in 1:52:40.
